We offer a number of ways people can volunteer. International groups can sign up in their home country through the Global Village program. We have had teams from China, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, United States, Singapore Hong Kong and Canada come to build with us around Fiji.

Local volunteers are encouraged to join us also. Church, school, youth, women, clubs and corporate groups are all welcome. Volunteering doesn’t just mean building. We encourage volunteers for lots of roles. If your skills are in fundraising or office work, we welcome you.

Businesses can invest their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) commitments in building with us or fundraising for specific projects. There is always a family in need on our books, so make it your business project to raise the funds and build the shelter they need.

As we are a non-profit organisation, any fundraising activities are very welcome. Got a great idea for a fundraiser? Share your idea with us and we can work on it!

Habitat Young Leaders BUILD (HYLB) 2016 (formerly known as Habitat Youth BUILD) is an initiative of Habitat for Humanity that engages young people to raise funds, grow awareness and advocate for decent housing in the Asia-Pacific region where one in eight people lives in slums, according to the United Nations. It is an annual campaign driven by concerned, motivated and socially responsible youth who take action and rally together to address poverty housing.

The campaign launches on International Volunteer Day, 5 December 2015, and culminates on 2 April, 2016 when hundreds of thousands of young people in multiple countries across the region build homes, raise funds and awareness, and advocate for decent shelter.

In alignment with Habitat for Humanity Fiji’s goal of engaging today’s generation of young leaders and supporters for the vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live, we pledge in our HYLB 2016 participation to:

  • Provide leadership and guidance through a designated national coordinator and team for an HYLB country campaign in coordination with the Asia-Pacific Office (APO)
    • Appoint youth volunteer leader(s) to spearhead HYLB activities
    • Secure groups and organizations to become strategic partners for HYLB
  • Engage local youth (aged 15 to 30 years old) of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, race, ethnicity and religious affiliation, including children of Habitat home partners, to undertake the following:

    • Develop an HYLB supporter database to engage and sustain their commitment beyond HYB  that includes participating in other builds and receiving the Asia-Pacific e-newsletter via email
    • Submit updates and wrap-up report to APO
  • Fundraise for house sponsorship, rehabilitation work and event-related expenses
  • Utilize the online portal, Give2Habitat.org, for peer-to-peer fundraising and volunteer recruitment
